Louise Phillips has come to DEPM from an unusual background. She was awarded her PhD for studies in marine biology - more specifically in the taxonomy of red seaweeds!
For the three years she has been working in the DEPM establishing and managing the Haemostasis Registry. This registry records all off-license uses of recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa or NovoSeven) throughout Australia and New Zealand. This is a drug which is licensed for use in some haemophiliacs but is increasingly being used off-label for a variety of non-haemophiliac patients with life threatening bleeding. This Registry has involved nearly 90 hospitals from throughout Australia and New Zealand and covers a wide variety of therapeutic areas.
Through this work Louise has become interested in all aspects of Registry science and is keen to exploit her experience with the Haemostasis Registry in the establishment of other Registries and in helping others to achieve excellence in the conduct of Registry management and maintain quality of Registry data through documenting standards of practice in all areas of Registry Science.
